Shiso

  • Shiso, also known as perilla, has broad, tender leaves with a slightly serrated edge. The leaves are delicate with a texture similar to that of mint or basil. The stems are thin and slightly woody, and the leaves have a complex, aromatic flavour that combines minty, basil-like notes with hints of cinnamon, anise, and citrus.

  • ​Shiso is:

    • an fair source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid beneficial for heart health.

    • a good source of dietary fibre can make people feel fuller for longer, helping to reduce overall calorie intake and support weight loss goals

    • a fair source of antioxidants like flavonoids and rosmarinic acid, which have anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties.

  • Mostly used for Korean barbeque and Sashimi, Shiso is also seen in other kinds of food, such as, sandwiches and wraps. It can also be grilled​
