Shiso, also known as perilla, has broad, tender leaves with a slightly serrated edge. The leaves are delicate with a texture similar to that of mint or basil. The stems are thin and slightly woody, and the leaves have a complex, aromatic flavour that combines minty, basil-like notes with hints of cinnamon, anise, and citrus.
